Investment Focus
Technology, Media, and Communications
CRT Private Equity plans to invest in early stage and emerging stage growth
companies in the Technology, Media and Telecommunication sectors and will
leverage the rapidly converging trends in the TMT sector, including the
expanding role of the internet (e.g. Broadband, Social Networking, VOIP, IPTV,
content distribution and advertising delivery) and the proliferation of new
services and applications for new mobile devices (e.g. games, content, Social
Networking applications). CRT Private Equity believes that opportunities in the
TMT sector will benefit from the following drivers:
- Behavioral shifts that stimulate demand as consumers adapt to new ways to
connect, communicate and control
- New businesses that emerge fueled by disintermediation and scale dynamics on
local and global platforms
- Significant advancements in bandwidth, storage and processing technologies
that drive the convergence of business models across the Internet, mobile and
television marketplaces
- Marketing that goes digital - Accountability and Targeting replace reach and
frequency
- Incumbents are spurred "to action" as opportunities and new competitors
threaten traditional businesses
On the business side, CRT Private Equity believes there will be opportunities
for software, infrastructure, and services companies to eliminate the "pain
points" created by the increasingly complex and competitive global business
environment. Major trends and evolving market dynamics are creating many of
these opportunities as companies navigate this constantly changing market
environment. CRT Private Equity will target companies in the software,
infrastructure and service sectors as described below, especially where its
relevant experience can be brought to bear in a differentiated manner.
Software
Companies continue to seek software solutions to help them meet vital
organizational needs. C-level executives and IT managers seek solutions that
are easy to integrate with existing systems, provide improved cost
efficiencies, and deliver rapid payback. In addition, new software delivery and
"on-demand" pricing models are emerging that will continue to shift software
towards a service model.
CRT Private Equity is particularly interested in software companies that
address customer demands in the following areas:
- Infrastructure systems and applications
- Enterprise information management and access
- Business intelligence and performance management
- Customer and prospect management (CRM)
- Small to mid-market ERP systems and applications
- Other industry specific solutions
Infrastructure
Increased demand for software and services across multiple fixed and mobile
platforms is driving an entirely new set of infrastructure needs. We are
interested in emerging companies focused on the important job of enabling the
delivery of higher performance utility and improved services including:
- Wireless communication
- Scalable information systems, data storage and backup
- System security
- Software-based infrastructure
- Distributed computing applications
Services
Enterprises continue to evolve and adapt through wired and wireless channels,
with demand for new or improved services proliferating at an increasing rate.
From digital content to digital commerce, the trend toward continued growth is
unmistakable, and businesses will continue to demand technology evolution and
innovation. In addition, as companies increasingly focus on their core areas of
expertise and manage costs, non-core services will continue to be outsourced,
thereby creating opportunity. CRT Private Equity will focus on technology-based
services companies including:
- Internet-based services and solutions
- Technology-driven outsourcing
- Network and hosted solutions
